1 Corinthians 14:37

If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

What Paul wrote to the church are the commandments of the Lord, given through his writings. Anyone who thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual must acknowledge that authority. Those writings therefore test claims to prophetic standing and to spiritual truth.

The Lord's commands require order and disciplined, harmonious action in the church. Ministers are to discipline themselves and to guide the church to work together in that order. This order belongs to God's arrangement and does not oppose true spirituality. It does not oppose rightful Christian freedom either, so independent action that rejects it works against His arrangement.
