Timothy was Paul's beloved spiritual son, faithful in the Lord, whose close bond with Paul began when he was converted through Paul's ministry. Paul sent him to Corinth as a trusted fellow worker with whom Paul shared intimate fellowship in missionary labor and service. His commission was to bring the Corinthian believers into remembrance of Paul's ways which are in Christ, both his conduct shaped by Christ and his teaching. That teaching was not adapted for Corinth alone, but was the same doctrine Paul taught everywhere in every church.
