1 Corinthians 6:13
Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
God's message through Paul here is addressed to those who claim to be Christians and profess righteousness, not to those who make no such profession. The body is not for fornication, defilement, or sexual immorality, but is for the Lord and for His service. In turn the Lord has a claim on the body and is concerned with it and cares for it.
The body belongs to God as a gift entrusted by Him because He redeemed it at a price. He paid the price of redemption for the body as well as for the soul, so He is to be glorified in both body and spirit. The Lord being for the body means that as Creator He continually watches over the human machinery and keeps it in motion by constant care. Its continued life depends on that care, for without it the pulse would not beat and the heart and brain would cease to act.
Because impulses and passions have their seat in the body, caring for the body is cooperating with its Creator. It must be kept in the best possible physical condition and under spiritual influences, so that its faculties and talents can be well used. This requires correct habits of eating and drinking that keep the blood pure, so the brain is nourished and all parts work harmoniously in health.
The whole sixth chapter, including this verse, is a lesson that gospel ministers and medical missionaries must study. It is to wake them up as watchmen to give the warning message for this time. It shows they must be healed of the maladies of sin and unbelief, refuse the teachings of the prince of darkness, have Satan cast out of the heart, and come to the Lord humbling their poor, defective hearts to receive help.
Subjects of the enemy are not temples of God. The verse requires making no concessions to the enemy, changing not one principle of the truth received from God, and holding no converse with those in league with evil angels, because Christ never purchased peace by compromise.
