Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.
Each person is to remain in the life situation and place of service in which God called them and serve God faithfully there. Being a servant does not lower a person's standing, for a servant called in the Lord is the Lord's freeman, while a free person called is Christ's servant. The same principle calls for willingness to do God's will among people of every social rank, rich or poor, high or low.
Christian influence comes not from rank, wealth, learning, or power but from a willing mind and a heart devoted to Christ. God is glorified when each person is content in the appointed place, and He gives His servants enough grace for every duty. Even in a humble sphere a person can show by God's grace what it means to live as a Christian. Applied to ministers of color who accepted the truth, remaining in the calling in which they were called means they should devote themselves especially to seeking the salvation of their own race, while still being welcome at gatherings with white people.
