1 Corinthians 7:30
And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not; And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;
Because time is short and the day of God is upon us, those who weep are to live as though not weeping, those who rejoice as though not rejoicing, those who buy as though not possessing, and those who have wives in the same detached way. The shortness of time means the period of Christ's ministration and His coming is very nearly finished, as God's angels always represent time to people. Declaring that time is short is true testimony and not deception even when time continues longer than expected, because God's promises and threatenings are conditional.
Applied to marriage, the verse means husband and wife are not to regard each other as the principal object of thought and the burden of the mind, not to seek to engross each other's sympathy and affection, and not to feel soul hunger when that desire is not appreciated or realized. That selfish yearning for exclusive sympathy is a terrible tyrant. Overcoming it requires transformed character, a new light, and a life controlled by Christlike principles of self-renunciation and self-sacrifice.
