1 Corinthians 7:35
And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction. And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.
God is best served with undivided attention, and missionary workers serve with better influence when unmarried, devoting all their interests and powers to saving precious souls. A mind fully engrossed with marriage cannot give that undivided service and is disqualified from the work God would have it do. Marriage and bringing children into the world increases cares and burdens and divides strength, so usefulness for God's cause is greatly lessened.
Those already married should thoughtfully consider their situation and give God all the powers He has given them for soul-saving rather than enlarging the family. In the last days a great desire to marry fills youth, and many of these marriages are instigated by the enemy with a bewitching power that bewilders the mind to think marriage is the attainment of bliss. But time proves both partners become dwarfed in spiritual things, hinder each other instead of helping, and reap great unhappiness.
Urgency for marriage against the wishes of parents, against reason, and without fitness in any way to take the responsibilities of a husband and family shows the Spirit of God does not have first place and controlling power. It shows a strong, determined will that mistakes its own persistency for proof that its plans are right while deceived in itself. This becomes a snare of the enemy bringing trial, worriment of mind, and desperation where the strong will assumes control and will not submit. The verse requires looking to one's own spirit, criticizing motives, keeping a single eye to act in all things for the glory of God, bringing the will into subjection to the will of God, and giving mind and affections to God in a yielding, teachable frame so as to be fitted for the work of God.
