1 John 5:17

All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

All unrighteousness is sin, and every unrighteous and wrong act falls under that definition. Sin is the transgression of the law. There is sin that does not lead to death, and there is sin that does lead to death.

Whoever is born of God does not sin but keeps himself, so that the wicked one does not touch him. This is the confidence belonging to believers, that if anything is asked according to God's will He hears, and the petition desired is granted. That includes that if a brother is seen committing sin not leading to death, life will be given in answer to asking for him, while for sin leading to death prayer is not required.

Christ's righteousness, the white raiment, will not cover the unrighteousness of anyone. Those who are breaking the law of God and teaching others to break it will not be covered with the garments of Christ's righteousness, because Christ came not to save men in their sins but from their sins. Harm done to souls who need strengthening, through unwise attention and a corrupt example, is a sin unto death.

In the perils of the last days many are asleep with their lamps going out and need thorough consecration and deeper devotion. Corruption exists even among Seventh-day Adventists, and men thought secure from temptation and feeling themselves secure do not understand that all unrighteousness is sin. Satan, Christ's personal enemy and the originator of every evil, works his deceptive schemes upon their minds.
