1 Kings 1:11
Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bath-sheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not? Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bath-sheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not?
Nathan warned Bath-sheba, the mother of Solomon, that Adonijah the son of Haggith had proclaimed himself king while David did not know it. His alert carried the news that Adonijah had declared himself king without David's knowledge. The warning was a direct response to Adonijah's attempt to take the throne for himself.
That attempt endangered Solomon's succession, and the report exposed the danger to it. Nathan and Bathsheba then acted faithfully to bring the situation before David. Their action reminded David that Solomon had been appointed to rule, for God had directed that Solomon should succeed him.
