1 Kings 1:12
Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon. Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.
The words are Nathan's counsel to Bathsheba to act against Adonijah's attempt to seize the throne during his rebellion. He urges prompt action, warning that delay will endanger her own life and the life of her son Solomon. Their intervention brings the matter before David and reminds him that God had appointed and directed Solomon to succeed him, and by this the conspiracy is thwarted and the rebellion is stopped. As a result Solomon, whom God had appointed to succeed David, is able to be made king. David abdicates, and Solomon is anointed and proclaimed king.
