The Queen of Sheba Meets King SolomonBible World

1 Kings 10:4

And when the queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon’s wisdom, and the house that he had built,

The queen of Sheba saw for herself Solomon's wisdom and the house he had built, and what she saw confirmed the report she had heard. The reality far surpassed her expectation, more than twice what she had been told, for she had not been told even half of his greatness. What she beheld also included the provisions and order of his court and his worship at the house of the Lord, and the combined sight overwhelmed her.

She had come as a seeker after truth from a heathen land to gain knowledge from him. She discussed nature with him and learned from his study of living and inanimate creation. Through his answers and his wisdom she learned that their source was God, the Creator who rules over all. She blessed the Lord for appointing Solomon to rule Israel to uphold judgment and justice.

Solomon's knowledge of nature had deepened his own understanding of God's wisdom and increased his love and knowledge of God as Creator. Those who came to hear him carried away new impressions of the living God and learned to regard nature as their instructor. Her coming in the strength of the reign of David and Solomon, and her not being turned away unsatisfied, illustrates Israel's opportunity to wield a mighty influence for truth and right. It was to exalt and honor the name of Jehovah and to fulfill the purpose for which Israel was established in the land of promise, with barriers broken down for such seekers, conversions taking place, and the church of God on earth enlarged and prospered.

The verse belongs to Solomon's early reign of wisdom and just rule. That rule later changed when he diverted resources meant to help the poor and improve the nation into costly gardens and projects to please his wives and exalt himself. By that course he burdened the poor with heavy taxation.
