1 Kings 10:9
Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel: because the LORD loved Israel for ever, therefore made he thee king, to do judgment and justice. Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel: because the LORD loved Israel for ever, therefore made he thee king, to do judgment and justice.
The verse belongs to the account of the queen of Sheba coming to Solomon for knowledge and speaking with him about the natural world. Solomon's study of nature had deepened his understanding of God as Creator, and visitors from many lands heard him teach that God created all things. They left with new impressions of the living God and learned to regard nature as an instructor.
The verse describes Solomon's early reign as wise and strictly just. That character was later lost when costly projects diverted resources from helping the poor and improving the nation. Suffering people were left without needed houses, food and clothing, and a heavy tax burden was placed on them.
Out of His everlasting love for Israel, God delighted in Solomon and set him on the throne of Israel and made him king to execute judgment and justice. The queen recognized God as the source of Solomon's throne and position, his rule, and his wisdom and prosperity. God intended through Solomon's favor, wisdom and rule that other peoples would recognize His hand as the source and give praise and honor to the Lord rather than merely to the human king. The verse thus illustrates how Solomon's wisdom and rule could direct people to honor the Lord.
The blessing of Jehovah by this heathen seeker shows His name exalted and held in honor among the nations when Israel became strong under David and Solomon. Then Israel had opportunity to wield mighty influence in behalf of truth and the right. Her blessing shows the purpose for which Israel was established in the land of promise nearing fulfillment. Barriers were broken down so that seekers after truth from heathen lands were not turned away unsatisfied but were converted, and the church of God on earth was enlarged and prospered.
