1 Kings 11:22
Then Pharaoh said unto him, But what hast thou lacked with me, that, behold, thou seekest to go to thine own country? And he answered, Nothing: howbeit let me go in any wise. Then Pharaoh said unto him, But what hast thou lacked with me, that, behold, thou seekest to go to thine own country? And he answered, Nothing: howbeit let me go in any wise.
The saying belongs to the account of Hadad, one of the adversaries who troubled Solomon. Hadad the Edomite was an adversary stirred up by the Lord against Solomon, the first of these harassments alongside Rezon and Jeroboam. God removed His protecting care and permitted these adversaries to harass and weaken the kingdom.
After Solomon's sinful course God did not forsake him or utterly cut him off, but sought by reproof and severe judgments to awaken him to a realization of the sinfulness of his course. This period of adversity was the discipline that awakened Solomon to his sin and showed him that God had not utterly cut him off.
