1 Kings 11:23

And God stirred him up another adversary, Rezon the son of Eliadah, which fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah:

God stirred up and permitted Rezon to become another adversary against Solomon. He was the son of Eliadah, who had fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah. This was a judgment for Solomon's sin and unfaithfulness, for his complete apostasy and hardened transgression, in which God withdrew His protecting care and permitted adversaries to harass and weaken his kingdom.

Rezon was a captain over a band who abhorred Israel and reigned over Syria. He stood with Hadad the Edomite and Jeroboam the servant who lifted up his hand against the king as instruments of that discipline, joined to the prophet's message that the kingdom would be torn away. In mercy the discipline was not utter rejection or forsaking, but terrible judgments and stern rebuke to awaken Solomon to his sin and to the sinfulness of sin and to call him back to God, until suffering accomplished its work and he awoke to his folly.
