1 Kings 11:27
And this was the cause that he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breaches of the city of David his father. And this was the cause that he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breaches of the city of David his father.
The one who lifted up his hand against the king was Jeroboam the son of Nebat. Solomon had observed that he was intelligent and industrious and a mighty man of valor, and therefore entrusted him with responsibilities and advanced him at different times. That advancement continued until he made him ruler over all the charge of the house of Joseph.
The building of Millo by Solomon and his repairing of the breaches of the city of David his father formed the occasion and setting for Jeroboam's opposition. This opposition belongs to the account of adversaries raised up against Solomon as a consequence and judgment for his unfaithfulness and apostasy. The Lord permitted such opposition to weaken the kingdom and to confront Solomon in order to awaken him to his sin.
