1 Kings 11:33

Because that they have forsaken me, and have worshipped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in mine eyes, and to keep my statutes and my judgments, as did David his father.

The word was spoken by Ahijah to Jeroboam when the two were alone in the field, after Ahijah rent his new garment into twelve pieces. It gave God's reason for rending the kingdom out of Solomon's hand and dividing it from the house of David, to give ten tribes to Jeroboam. That reason was that they had forsaken God and worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon. They had not walked in God's ways to do what was right in His eyes and to keep His statutes and His judgments, as David his father had done.

Jeroboam's later idolatry continued this same apostasy, when he set up unauthorized priests and led Israel into sin. That course brought judgment in the foretold ruin of the kingdom, when Israel would be uprooted from its land and scattered beyond the river.
