1 Kings 11:36
And unto his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a light alway before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there. And unto his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a light alway before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there.
When the kingdom was divided, one tribe was to remain under the house and line of David. This reservation was made even while judgment was pronounced upon Jeroboam and Israel for apostasy. It preserved for David a royal light continuing always before God in Jerusalem. Jerusalem was the city God had chosen to place His name there.
In that same prophetic setting, Jeroboam's persistent idolatry and his leading of Israel into sin and apostasy were joined to a foretold ruin and scattering of the kingdom. Israel's growing apostasy moved toward eventual ruin as the outworking of the judgment announced in that prophecy.
