1 Kings 11:38
And it shall be, if thou wilt hearken unto all that I command thee, and wilt walk in my ways, and do that is right in my sight, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did; that I will be with thee, and build thee a sure house, as I built for David, and will give Israel unto thee.
God set before Jeroboam a conditional promise that if he would listen to all that was commanded him and walk in God's ways and do what was right by keeping statutes and commandments as David had done, then God would be with him and build him an enduring house as had been built for David and would give Israel to him. That condition was broken, for he did not follow it but continued in evil, making priests for the high places and leading Israel into sin in apostasy from what was required. His apostasy brought the foretold destruction of his house, and his sins brought judgment upon Israel in its ruin and removal from the land to be scattered beyond the river.
