1 Kings 12:24

Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. They hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.

After Adoram was stoned, Rehoboam fled to Jerusalem and assembled 180,000 chosen warriors from Judah and Benjamin to fight against the house of Israel and bring the kingdom back to himself. The word of the Lord came through Shemaiah the man of God to Rehoboam and to all Judah and Benjamin and the remnant. He forbade them to go up and fight against their brethren the children of Israel, commanding every man to return to his house.

The rending of the kingdom was from God and took place in harmony with His purpose and the prophet's prediction. They hearkened to the word of the Lord, abandoned the planned attack, and departed. The ten northern tribes formed the kingdom of Israel under Jeroboam, while Judah and Benjamin remained under Rehoboam.
