Jeroboam's Withered Hand Is Healedby emmanuel_higgins

1 Kings 13:6

And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Intreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again. And the man of God besought the LORD, and the king’s hand was restored him again, and became as it was before.

Jeroboam raised his hand against the man of God to seize him, and the hand dried up and became helpless and palsied so that he could not draw it back. At the frightened king's earnest request that he intreat the Lord for him, the man of God prayed, and the withered hand was restored to its former condition and became as before. The healing was granted even while Jeroboam remained in his abominations, and the restored hand was a rebuke to him and a sign and evidence of God's power and displeasure with idolatrous sacrifices at the altar. Together with the rent altar and the later death of the disobedient prophet, the restraining and restoring of the hand was meant to create awe and lead the people to repentance. It should have warned Jeroboam that God's displeasure was swift, so that he would accept God's message, stop and not persist in wrongdoing, turn from evil, and serve the Lord. Despite these signs, the hearts of Israel remained hardened and did not repent.
