Jeroboam's Wife Comes to the Blind Prophet Ahijahby emmanuel_higgins

1 Kings 14:1

At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick.

At that time opens the history of Jeroboam and the end of his dynasty, centered on the falling sick of Jeroboam's son Abijah. It belongs to the account of Jeroboam's wife coming in disguise to the prophet Ahijah at Shiloh. Shiloh, where Ahijah lived, had earlier been a central place for Israel but by the time described had fallen into ruin.

The chapter containing the verse mentions an event recorded more completely in 2 Chronicles 12, with evidence for that event found in the ruins of the temple at Karnak in Egypt on the Nile. Abijah is a righteous person in Jeroboam's wicked family, showing that a person can remain godly while surrounded by evil.
