1 Kings 14:17
And Jeroboam’s wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah: and when she came to the threshold of the door, the child died; And Jeroboam’s wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah: and when she came to the threshold of the door, the child died;
Tirzah is the destination to which Jeroboam's wife came. The child died as she reached the threshold of the door, fulfilling the death foretold by the prophet Ahijah. Tirzah lay only a few miles from Shechem. Its exact site is unknown. Its name means delight, likely reflecting the beauty of its setting and buildings.
Jeroboam later moved the capital from Shechem to Tirzah. Tirzah served as Israel's royal city from Jeroboam's time until Omri's reign. It remained the capital until Ahab moved it to Samaria.
