God lifted Jeroboam up from among the common people and set him as prince and ruler over Israel. The exaltation was God's own act, placing a man of low origin in charge of His people Israel. Jeroboam then turned his plans and position to lead Israel into idolatry and terrible evils. He was held accountable for the results of his course, bearing responsibility for the ruin his leadership produced. Whoever follows Jeroboam's example is likewise held accountable for the results of his own wrongdoing.
