1 Kings 16:25

But Omri wrought evil in the eyes of the LORD, and did worse than all that were before him.

Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord and did worse than all the kings who were before him. He was the founder of Samaria. He was the father of Ahab.

His reign leads directly into the reign of his son Ahab, which began two years before the death of Asa. That reign was marked from the beginning by a strange and terrible apostasy, an unusual and dreadful departure from God. Ahab's apostasy and sins were still greater than the evil of Omri.

Ahab provoked the Lord more than all Israel's earlier kings. He did so by promoting idolatry and replacing the worship of Jehovah with Baal worship.
