The beginning of the reign of Ahab the son of Omri over Israel fell in the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, two years before Asa's death. He reigned over Israel from Samaria for twenty-two years. His accession opened a period of grave apostasy in which idolatry prevailed, for he promoted the worship of Baal and turned Israel away from the worship of Jehovah. The record of that time stands as a warning whose lessons apply again in later times.
