1 Kings 17:23
And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth. And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
Elijah had left the brook Cherith after it dried in the drought and found refuge in Zarephath belonging to Zidon, in the home of a widow who was not an Israelite but believed in the true God. He brought the revived child down from the chamber or upper room into the house, gave him to his mother, and declared that her son lives. The child's restoration to life was God's act of life-restoring power in answer to Elijah's prayer. Through this event the mother recognized that Elijah is a man of God and that God's word spoken through him is true.
Elijah's giving the widow of Zarephath's son back alive was in return for her sharing her morsel with him, an act that preserved her life and her son's life. The verse carries God's promise of great blessing to all who in time of trial and want give sympathy and assistance to others who are more needy. God's power to preserve and bless is no less now than it was in Elijah's day. The verse is an example of receiving a prophet's reward for receiving a prophet in the name of a prophet.
