1 Kings 2:42
And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Did I not make thee to swear by the LORD, and protested unto thee, saying, Know for a certain, on the day thou goest out, and walkest abroad any whither, that thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst unto me, The word that I have heard is good.
Solomon sent for Shimei and called him to answer for breaking the binding condition placed upon him. The condition was an oath sworn by the Lord together with a solemn command that Shimei remain in Jerusalem. Solomon reminded him that he had been plainly warned beforehand that leaving the city would bring certain death. That warning applied to the very day he should go out and walk abroad to any place whatever. Shimei himself had agreed to those terms, declaring the word he had heard to be good.
