1 Kings 20:13

And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.

The verse falls within the history of Israel's kings and the ministry of the prophets during the period after the ten tribes separated from Judah. It belongs to the record of Ahab's life and rule, who turned from the worship of Jehovah to heathen gods and imposed their worship on his people. It belongs to the account of Ben-hadad king of Syria's attack on Samaria and God's defeat of him giving Israel victory; Ben-hadad later returned with a large force while Israel's army looked like two small flocks of goats, and 100,000 Syrian foot soldiers fell in battle.

A prophet brought Ahab instruction and a message of deliverance from the Lord, promising that despite the great Syrian multitude God would deliver it into his hand that day, so Ahab would know that the Lord is God and that the victory came from Him. The promise was carried out through 232 young princes chosen from among seven thousand people, who delivered Israel under Ahab's direction. In this the verse shows God making another effort to win the weak Ahab. The verse teaches that victory in the fight against sin comes not through worldly power or might, but through the might of the Spirit of God.
