1 Kings 22:28

And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.

Micaiah made the safe return of the king the test of whether divine authority stood behind his message, declaring that if Ahab came back in peace then the Lord had not spoken by him. The condition was absolute, leaving no middle ground between vindication and exposure as a false prophet. The warning against going up to the battle was vindicated when Ahab was slain in the fighting and his forces were dismissed to their homes. That outcome proved that the word spoken against the expedition had indeed been the Lord's word.
