1 Kings 22:45
Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he shewed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he shewed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
The verse stands at the close of about eighty years of history of the two separate kingdoms of Judah and Israel, extending from the revolt of the ten tribes to the death of Jehoshaphat and covering the reigns of several kings of both Judah and Israel. It belongs to the historical record of the kings after Israel and Judah divided, whose history is found in the remainder of 1 Kings and throughout 2 Kings and is repeated in Chronicles. In that arrangement Kings gives fuller coverage to the history of Israel, while Chronicles gives fuller coverage to the history of Judah. After the division, Chronicles omits further mention of the wicked kingdom of Israel.
The verse points to a fuller record of Jehoshaphat's acts, might that he showed, and how he warred, preserved in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah. Here his reign is treated only briefly and lightly. The surrounding brief account presents Jehoshaphat as a good king of Judah. It notes his grave, fearful and serious mistake in allying himself with Ahab and Ahab's house. That same surrounding account also records Ahab's death.
The verse falls within the account of Ahab's reign, which is a record intended to teach later generations. That account places Ahab in the time of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah.
