The True Mother Takes Her Baby Homeby Joel

1 Kings 3:28

And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.

Solomon chose wisdom above riches, honor, or long life, and the answer was the granting of his petition for a quick mind, a large heart, and a tender spirit. His ability and authority to administer justice and to do judgment was a gift of God, made evident in his just rule. That wisdom and sympathy were shown early when he discerned the true mother of a helpless child and restored the baby to her.

All Israel saw that the wisdom of God was in him, so they feared him and stood in awe of him, turned their hearts toward him as they had toward David, and obeyed him in all things, giving him their loyalty. The Lord was with him and magnified him exceedingly. His wisdom and righteousness displayed God's character to other nations and brought honor to Jehovah, so the real glory of his early reign lay in using Heaven's gifts to honor God, not in wealth, power, or fame.
