1 Kings 4:11

The son of Abinadab, in all the region of Dor; which had Taphath the daughter of Solomon to wife:

The verse stands in the first eleven chapters of 1 Kings, which record the life of Solomon, within the history of Israel's undivided kingdom. Solomon succeeded David, who followed Saul, as king over the united kingdom of Israel, and afterward Rehoboam took the kingdom and saw it divided into Israel and Judah, with Israel obliterated in 721 B.C. and Judah besieged and carried captive by Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. The account of his reign presents him as great as well as wise. The same reign is also related in 2 Chronicles 1-9.

The verse names one of the high officers Solomon placed up and down the country throughout the country for administration. It is part of a brief, comprehensive account of his officers and the condition of his kingdom at the beginning of his reign. It belongs to the time when the people were numerous and contented and his fame spread into neighboring lands.
