1 Kings 4:19

Geber the son of Uri was in the country of Gilead, in the country of Sihon king of the Amorites, and of Og king of Bashan; and he was the only officer which was in the land.

1 Kings 1-11 gives the account of the reign of Solomon, with chapter 4 describing his administration. Solomon placed high officers up and down the country for administration. Geber the son of Uri was set over Gilead as the officer in that land, and he was the only officer there, in the former country of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan.

The chapter shows his greatness as well as his wisdom. That wisdom and knowledge were extraordinary and God-given, and brought him fame among the surrounding nations. Under this administration Israel stood at the height of earthly prosperity and grandeur. The people were numerous and contented, and Solomon's fame spread into neighboring lands.
