1 Kings 4:27
And those officers provided victual for king Solomon, and for all that came unto king Solomon’s table, every man in his month: they lacked nothing. And those officers provided victual for king Solomon, and for all that came unto king Solomon’s table, every man in his month: they lacked nothing.
The verse belongs to the history of Solomon's reign in 1 Kings 1-11. It stands within a brief comprehensive account of his officers and of the condition of the kingdom at the beginning of his reign. That account sets forth his power, wealth, and wisdom.
High officers were placed up and down the country for administration, stationed with their men in different parts of the land over particular regions and cities. They took turns providing victuals for the king and for all that came unto his table and household. Each man supplied in his assigned month. Under this rotation those supplied lacked nothing.
The arrangement displays provision and orderly administration. It shows Solomon to be great as well as wise. It belongs to a time when Israel enjoyed exceptional prosperity and the king's household was abundantly supplied. Then the people were numerous and contented, and his fame spread into neighboring lands.
