1 Kings 6:11

And the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying,

The verse introduces God's message to Solomon while he was building the temple. That temple replaced the movable tabernacle after Israel settled in Canaan, as a larger, permanent structure that kept the tabernacle's proportions and furnishings. The sanctuary continued in that form, apart from its ruin in Daniel's time, until the Romans destroyed it in A.D. 70. In the message, God's presence among Israel and the fulfillment of His promise to David were tied to Solomon's obedience to God's statutes, judgments, and commandments.

God gave definite specifications for His house, repeated often, which had to be followed with utmost exactness, care, and excellence in all the work done. Solomon faithfully carried out those directions, using the wisdom God had given him to build a magnificent house for God. Every part was to represent God's perfection, making the temple a place where God would meet His people and a witness to the nations of Israel's great God. The care shown in carrying out the specifications would teach both believers and unbelievers the importance of the work.

The magnificent construction spread Solomon's fame and honor among the nations.
