Solomon Touches the Gold-Overlaid Cedar of the Templeby emmanuel_higgins

1 Kings 6:15

And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house, and the walls of the cieling: and he covered them on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir.

This verse belongs to the account of Solomon's construction of the temple. That temple replaced the portable tabernacle after Israel settled in Canaan. It was permanent and larger than the tabernacle, but it kept the same proportions and was similarly furnished.

The verse describes the inner finish of the house, with boards of cedar covering the interior walls and ceiling and planks of fir covering the floor. The cedar was carved with knobs and open flowers, so that no stone was visible inside. The building and finishing work in the verse was done in faithful obedience to God's directions. The completed building was the most magnificent the world ever saw, unsurpassed and renowned for richness, beauty, and costly design.

Solomon carried out this and every important enterprise and business matter of the kingdom with the wise and understanding heart God gave him in answer to his desire for wisdom above earthly riches, honor, or long life. His faithful work spread his fame among all nations, who marveled at his superior knowledge, wisdom, excellence of character, and greatness of power, with many coming from all parts of the world to see him and be instructed by him.
