1 Kings 6:21
So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold. So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.
Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold, adorning the interior of the temple and making a partition by chains of gold before the oracle, the inner sanctuary. He was commanded to beautify God's house in this way, with this glorious overlaying of gold within. That temple was a permanent sanctuary on a larger scale, built after the same proportions and with the same furnishings as the tabernacle erected by Moses.
The glorious and special adorning of God's house with gold does not justify Christians in decorating their fallen, mortal bodies with gold and gold jewelry to improve their appearance and gain influence in the world. Human beings are fallen, and their redemption cost the suffering and death of Christ, the Son of God, so the proper response is humility and self-abasement rather than bodily ornament. Christ is the meek, crucified pattern, and to overcome and be with Him in heaven, people must be like Him on earth by leaving behind what belongs to the world.
