1 Kings 6:24
And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits. And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits.
The measurement belongs to the account of Solomon's construction of the temple, a building made according to God's directions and renowned for its richness, beauty, and costly design. That temple was the most splendid sanctuary, made like the heavenly sanctuary according to the pattern shown to Moses on the mount and afterward presented to David. It was a permanent, larger-scale replacement for Moses' tabernacle and kept the same proportions and arrangement.
Beyond the cherubim on top of the ark, Solomon made two other larger angels standing on the floor at each end of the ark. Each cherub had two wings, each five cubits long, so the span from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other was ten cubits. The sacred ark was carried in solemn, reverential order and set in its place beneath their wings, representing the heavenly angels always guarding the law of God.
