1 Kings 6:30

And the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without.

The overlaying of the floor of the house with gold, within and without, stands as one detail in the account of the temple's construction. That temple was the most magnificent building the world ever saw, one that could not be excelled for richness and beauty and costly design. It was a permanent structure on a larger scale than the tabernacle, yet it kept the same proportions and furnishings.

Solomon built it by faithfully carrying out God's directions, with the wisdom and understanding heart that God gave him. God gave him that wisdom because he desired wisdom above earthly riches and honor and long life, making him the wisest king that ever sat upon the throne. For many years his life was marked with devotion to God and uprightness and firm principle and strict obedience to God's commands, and he directed every important enterprise and managed the business matters of the kingdom with the greatest wisdom, and wrote many proverbs and composed many songs, and was greatly blessed and honored of God. His faithful work in constructing the temple caused his fame to spread among the nations everywhere, and all nations acknowledged and marveled at his superior knowledge and wisdom and excellence of character and greatness of power, and many came from all parts of the world to behold his power and to be instructed how to conduct difficult matters.
