1 Kings 7:17
And nets of checker work, and wreaths of chain work, for the chapiters which were upon the top of the pillars; seven for the one chapiter, and seven for the other chapiter. And nets of checker work, and wreaths of chain work, for the chapiters which were upon the top of the pillars; seven for the one chapiter, and seven for the other chapiter.
The verse belongs to the history of the undivided kingdom under Solomon, describing the building and furniture of the temple. It covers the same events as 2 Chronicles 1 to 9 in chronological order, where the building and furniture of the temple, with the dedication prayer and sacrifices and the divine answer to Solomon's prayer, are to be especially noted. In 1 Kings 7 the description of Solomon's own house comes first, and he built it after he had finished the house of Jehovah. The verse stands in the latter part of the chapter, which goes into details concerning the furnishings and vessels of the temple. It describes the detailed work on the chapiters upon the top of the pillars, with nets of checker work and wreaths of chain work, seven for the one chapiter and seven for the other.
The chapter describes the construction of a magnificent, permanent sanctuary that enlarged the tabernacle's plan, with sanctuary vessels increased in size and number. Like the tabernacle, the temple had two holy places, sacred vessels of the same kinds, and the same ministry, and by its plan and ministry it was a pattern of the heavenly temple. The power of invention is God-given, and the Lord gave special wisdom to the men who did this detailed temple work. Solomon's order in building, finishing the house of Jehovah before his own house, stands in contrast to many who make self first.
