1 Kings 7:21
And he set up the pillars in the porch of the temple: and he set up the right pillar, and called the name thereof Jachin: and he set up the left pillar, and called the name thereof Boaz. And he set up the pillars in the porch of the temple: and he set up the right pillar, and called the name thereof Jachin: and he set up the left pillar, and called the name thereof Boaz.
The verse belongs to the history of the undivided kingdom under Solomon, corresponding to the account in 2 Chronicles 1 to 9, where it stands in chronological order. It gives part of the building and furniture of the temple, which is to be noted especially, along with the dedication prayer and sacrifices and the divine answer to Solomon's prayer.
Solomon's temple was a larger, permanent and enlarged form of the tabernacle, built on the same plan. Like the tabernacle, it had two holy places, with the same kinds of sacred vessels and the same ministry. It was built over seven years and six months with greater and more numerous sanctuary vessels. Its two-part design was a pattern of the heavenly temple, which also has two holy places.
The men who built the temple worked by special wisdom given by the Lord, and all power of invention and skill for such construction is God-given. Its principles were never new to the Lord, who could have revealed them thousands of years earlier had it been within His purpose. All such wisdom was given for the benefit of the masses and for the furtherance of His cause. Of its two pillars, the right one was called Jachin, meaning he will establish, and the left one was called Boaz, meaning strength is in it. Together the names show that God establishes those who overcome and gives them strength, so that even if people exclude them from worldly organizations they cannot be excluded from God's spiritual temple.
