1 Kings 7:28

And the work of the bases was on this manner: they had borders, and the borders were between the ledges:

The work described is that of the stands made for Solomon's temple, constructed with borders enclosed between ledges. This detail belongs to the history of Solomon's reign over the undivided kingdom, which forms the first section of 1 Kings in chapters 1 to 11. That history gives the same events as 2 Chronicles 1 to 9 and stands in chronological order.

The verse belongs to the full account of the sanctuary's construction, whose subject is the building and furniture of the temple. That building and furnishing is to be especially noted together with the dedication prayer and sacrifices and the divine answer to Solomon's prayer. The temple itself was a magnificent, permanent enlargement of the tabernacle.

It was built with two holy places on the same plan as the tabernacle, with the same kind of sacred vessels and the same kind of ministration. Its sanctuary vessels were increased in size and number. Its plan, structure, and sacred vessels served as a pattern of the heavenly temple. The passage of 1 Kings 7:13-51 containing this detail shows that God gave the temple builders wisdom and skill for their work, including the construction of these bases.
