1 Kings 7:34

And there were four undersetters to the four corners of one base: and the undersetters were of the very base itself.

The verse belongs to the history of the undivided kingdom under Solomon in 1 Kings 1-11, which forms the first portion of 1 Kings and comes here in chronological order. That history is parallel to 2 Chronicles 1-9. Within that history it belongs to the account of Solomon's reign and the building of the temple, including its construction and dedication. The building and furniture of the temple, the dedication prayer and sacrifices, and the divine answer to Solomon's prayer are to be especially noted.

It stands in the latter part of the chapter that enters into details concerning the furnishings and vessels of the temple. That description comes after the description of Solomon's own house, which was built after he had finished the house of Jehovah, showing God put first rather than self first as many do. Solomon's temple was a permanent enlargement following the tabernacle plan. Its sacred vessels were increased in size and number.

The temple and its sacred vessels had two holy places. They served the same ministry as the tabernacle. They were a pattern of the heavenly temple, which likewise has two holy places. The work described in 1 Kings 7:13-51, including the furnishings to which the verse belongs, shows that God gave the temple builders special wisdom and skill for constructing the temple.
