1 Kings 7:40
And Hiram made the lavers, and the shovels, and the basons. So Hiram made an end of doing all the work that he made king Solomon for the house of the LORD: And Hiram made the lavers, and the shovels, and the basons. So Hiram made an end of doing all the work that he made king Solomon for the house of the LORD:
1 Kings 7:40 belongs to the account of Solomon's reign, the period of the undivided kingdom covered in 1 Kings 1-11. Within that history 1 Kings 7 comes in chronological order and parallels 2 Chronicles 1 to 9. Its subject is the building and furniture of the temple.
That chapter gives the furnishings and vessels made after the house of the LORD was finished. It is to be noted especially along with the dedication prayer and the sacrifices and the divine answer to Solomon's prayer. The verse itself records that Hiram made the lavers and the shovels and the basins, and so made an end of doing all the work that he made for King Solomon for the house of the LORD.
The temple account shows that its sacred vessels were increased in size and number compared with those of the tabernacle. Like the tabernacle, the temple had two holy places and followed the same plan, using vessels and a ministry like those of the tabernacle. In this it served as a pattern of the heavenly temple. The power of invention is God-given, for the Lord gave special wisdom to the builders of the temple. That wisdom was given for the benefit of the masses and for the furtherance of His cause, and the principles of all invention were already known to the Lord long before men discovered them.
