1 Kings 9:1
And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the LORD, and the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do, And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the LORD, and the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do,
The verse marks the moment when Solomon had finished building the house of the Lord and the king's house, with all the other building projects he had desired to undertake, in the period following the dedication of the temple. At that completed point the Lord appeared to Solomon a second time, in remembrance of His earlier appearing to him at Gibeon. In that second appearing the Lord gave him plain counsel to remain faithful and to keep His command. Solomon afterward failed to keep that counsel, broke God's command, and turned aside to other gods.
The word then spoken to Solomon reaches beyond him to everyone who takes up responsibility in the Lord's work, that power pushed beyond its proper limit becomes a snare and can bring ruin to the soul.
