1 Kings 9:19
And all the cities of store that Solomon had, and cities for his chariots, and cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion. And all the cities of store that Solomon had, and cities for his chariots, and cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.
The verse lists the store cities, the cities for chariots, the cities for horsemen, and the other works that Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion. These cities were built and fortified at important trade routes and gateways. Their strategic locations could have helped Israel share knowledge of the true God with travelers from many nations.
Solomon built these works from ambition to surpass other nations in power and grandeur through outward display. He used them to strengthen his own position instead, wasting that missionary opportunity. His pursuit of vanity and self-glory in this building led him to sacrifice integrity, become despotic, and turn power and riches into a curse.
