1 Samuel 1:4

And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

The time was when Elkanah's family shared at Shiloh the feast that followed the thank-offerings, also understood as the peace-offering feast. Sharing that meal was customary at the sacred gatherings, uniting worship with a solemn yet joyful family feast. At that distribution Elkanah gave a portion to Peninnah his wife and to each of her sons and daughters, so that every member received a share.

Hannah received a double portion as a sign of Elkanah's special love for her, setting her above the rest. That favoritism stirred Peninnah's envy, and she turned Hannah's childlessness into taunting, claiming that God favored herself instead.
