1 Samuel 10:4

And they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hands.

On his journey home Saul met men traveling up to worship at Bethel, who greeted him and gave him two of the three loaves they were carrying. This meeting happened exactly as Samuel had told him beforehand that it would, down to the greeting and the gift of bread. It stood as one of the predicted signs given to mark his way and to confirm the truth of Samuel's message about what he would encounter.

The exactness of the sign was intended to strengthen Saul's confidence that God had a definite purpose for him. By seeing Samuel's words fulfilled in detail, he was to believe that the Spirit would qualify him for the new position to which he had been called.
