1 Samuel 11:8
And when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand. And when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.
At Bezek Saul numbered 330,000 men in all, 300,000 from Israel and 30,000 from Judah. This large force was assembled and ready to relieve Jabesh-gilead, which was under siege by the Ammonites. The resulting victory at Jabesh-gilead displayed Saul's energy and military skill. The whole nation extolled Saul for that deliverance, forgetting that he was only the agent by whom the Lord had worked for them. Saul was humble and self-distrustful when first called to the throne and at first ascribed the glory to God, but afterward he took the honor to himself and was made self-confident by this success.
