1 Samuel 12:23
Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way: Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:
The words belong to Samuel's parting address at Gilgal, given when the welcome to Saul as king had died away and the aged prophet was ending his service as ruler. They were spoken to a people who had sinned by demanding a king, thereby rejecting God's rule and His arrangement and showing ingratitude. In the verse continued prayer for Israel is treated as a duty to the Lord, so that to cease praying for them would be sin against Him. Despite that sin he remained deeply concerned for the people and continued to intercede for them and to serve them as judge and teacher.
That intercession is joined with instruction, for he commits himself to teach them the good and right way in faithful service to God. That teaching urges reverent fear and faithful service to the Lord and remembrance of His mighty acts, with warning that continued wickedness will bring destruction on them and their king. Teaching others the good and right way requires practicing the truth one professes, living in harmony with Christ's life by putting away what conflicts with it.
