1 Samuel 12:7
Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers. Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.
The call to stand still opens Samuel's parting address at Gilgal, where he summons Israel to pause while he reasons with them before the Lord concerning all the righteous acts done for them and for their fathers. The summons looks back over the nation's life in the promised land, bringing to mind God's deliverance at the Jordan and the victories that followed entrance into Canaan. It recalls at the same time their failures and the consequences those failures brought upon them. In that setting the appeal both warns Israel that its course has displeased God and introduces Samuel's own blameless service, held up before the people as an example.
